George & Mary Arrants’ Journey with Their Son, Jacob
Student Name: Jacob Arrant
When George and Mary Arrants realized their son, Jacob, lacked direction at their local community college, they sought an alternative path. “Our son was going to our local community college [and] really didn’t have a degree plan,” Mary recalls. “So this kind of lightbulb went off in my head, ‘What about proposing to Jacob to go to WyoTech?’”
“Him and I came up with one of his friends and toured the school campus. Ten minutes in, he said, ‘Yep,’” George shares, reflecting on how quickly Jacob felt at home.
“He was very excited about it,” adds Mary.
George and Mary were impressed by the technical education and WyoTech’s commitment to employability. “The philosophy and the core goals of WyoTech are to ensure not only the technical component but that employability piece that sets the WyoTech graduates apart,” says George. “Many college graduates don’t possess those skill sets.”
“Many students travel a thousand miles to get to WyoTech. Let them find their way; let them make those decisions. It’s not our life, it’s their life,” George emphasizes.
They also share how WyoTech’s environment significantly impacted Jacob’s growth. “You’re coming to a small town; you’re not coming to a big city. You’re going to school for eight hours a day, just like a job. The students that go here build lifelong friendships,” says George.
Mary added, “His coming here and spending 15 months was just a total personal growth experience for him.”
The Arrants also appreciated the community and career benefits WyoTech offers. “The family environment and the atmosphere that has literally always existed at WyoTech is very important too, and you really don’t understand that until you walk through the doors. But these are skills you can use anywhere in the U.S. or anywhere in the world,” George points out. “These are essential jobs; these are hands-on skills that you’ll take with you for the rest of your life.”

As for the Saalfelds, they were instantly impressed by WyoTech’s offerings. “We were impressed the moment we walked in the door with all the stuff that they had here, all the programs that they had.”
