2025 Hall of Fame: Nicolas Martinson

May 9, 2025

Nicolas Martinson has built a distinguished career over two decades in high-level engineering, contributing to premier automotive brands like BMW, Alfa Romeo, Maserati, and Ferrari, and is now advancing aerospace engine technology at Blue Origin. His foundational automotive knowledge came from WyoTech, where he studied Automotive Technology, Chassis Fabrication, High-Performance Engines, and Applied Service Management. Recognizing his potential, BMW selected him for their S.T.E.P. program, launching his career as a technician in dealerships across the Rockies. For a decade, Nick specialized in BMW service and repair before returning to the Pacific Northwest, setting the stage for his aspiration to work with Ferrari.

At Ferrari, Nick quickly rose from an entry-level technician to Ferrari Master Technician and Shop Foreman. He managed highly specialized service operations, often dealing with complex work beyond standard service centers. His enthusiasm for Ferrari and the trade allowed him to develop expertise in advanced electrical diagnostics, engine rebuilds, F1 gearbox repairs, and servicing exclusive models like the 288 GTO, F40, Enzo, and LaFerrari. He also worked with the Ferrari Challenge Series pit crew, specializing in drivability and diagnostics for races and private track events across the country.

Nick’s skills and dedication earned him an invitation to Ferrari’s Tech Challenge (later Testa Rossa Awards), a global competition for top Ferrari technicians. He competed for four years (2016-2019), finishing third in 2016 and winning first place in 2019, earning the title of “Best Ferrari Technician in the World,” a goal he achieved seven years after joining Ferrari.

Seeking new challenges after mastering the automotive world, Nick transitioned to the aerospace industry at Blue Origin as a Manufacturing Supervisor, overseeing rocket engine production for programs like “New Shepard” and “New Glenn.” His expertise in high-performance mechanical systems proved transferable to aerospace.

Despite his shift to aerospace, Nick’s passion for Ferrari endures. He operates Scuderia Custode, an independent Ferrari service and restoration business, applying his world-class expertise. He also shares his Ferrari knowledge on his YouTube channel, @AutoTechNick.

Residing in Seattle with his wife Erin and their two children, Ava and Trevor, Nick acknowledges Erin’s unwavering support, including her full-time work that supported his WyoTech education. Their enduring partnership continues to support his endeavors.
