WyoTech Success Story - Jessi Combs

jessi combs

Jessi graduated in 2004 from WyoTech's Collision/ Refinishing Technology Program with specialty focuses in Motorsports Chassis Fabrication, Street Rod and Custom Fabrication and Trim and Upholstery Technology.

Jessi is a proud graduate of WyoTech in Laramie, Wyoming. She credits WyoTech with helping her refine the skills she needed to succeed in the industry — and take her even further than she had imagined.

“At WyoTech, I honed the skills that employers are looking for, and really applied myself,” said Jessi. “In addition to hands-on training, I got the professional skills I needed to not only get a job in my field, but truly stand out from others trying to break into the industry.”*

While at WyoTech, Jessi was asked by the marketing department to build a very special car from the ground up with another WyoTech student, giving her a chance to show her metal fabrication, chasis design, body and paint, and overall build skills. The car was shown at the Specialty Equipment Marketing Association’s (SEMA) trade show and then auctioned off for charity — and got Jessi into even higher gear, more passionate than ever about her career.

Because her training at WyoTech was so extensive and her dedication so deep, Jessi had more opportunities than the average college graduate. After graduation she got the opportunity to appear on Overhaulin’ as a guest fabricator. Then she was soon hired as the co-host of Xtreme 4x4 on Spike TV. There she built everything from race and street trucks to trail rigs and trailers in front of millions of viewers. Since then, Jessi has appeared on or hosted multiple shows, including:

  • All Girls Garage
  • MythBusters
  • Overhaulin’
  • Xtreme 4x4
  • 2 Guys Garage
  • TruckU
  • SEMA Show Special
  • Full Throttle TV
  • Pirate4x4 Live
  • And many more

Jessi credits her hard work and her instructors with her success – without that combination, she knows she wouldn’t be where she is today. “I had great instructors, but none of that would have mattered had I not worked hard myself,” she said. “At WyoTech I had the opportunity to learn more than one skill, and I took classes that gave me even more experience than I expected. I knew that I had to take advantage of everything WyoTech offered and work hard to try to master each area. Obviously, it’s taken me even further than I could have dreamed.”

If you have the passion and drive to build a career like Jessi, WyoTech is the perfect place to start. Whether you’re interested in metal fabrication or becoming an automotive technician or motorcycle mechanic, WyoTech can give you the skills you need to go anywhere – from a dealer or shop to your own business. 7 Most Commonly Damaged Car PartsMay 15th 2014Automotive collision refinishing specialists see a lot of vehicular damage. Dealing with damaged car and truck parts is part of the job. But some car parts get damaged more often than others, so it pays to put particular focus on repairing these particular components. Here are the seven most commonly damaged car parts based on a survey of nearly 20,000 auto collisions in 2010:* 1. Front Bumper (28 percent) – This is no surprise, since the front bumper is the first part of a car to hit another object when in forward motion.
