Mark Doherty teaches in the Motorcycle Technology Core Program
What would you like to share with prospective students?
I possess a passion and desire for teaching motor sports and motorcycles. I would like a prospective student to know the significance I feel of being a part of changing their lives and assisting them with learning a highly technical career.
How did you get started in this field?
I grew up around bikes, cars and racing. I began building and racing when I was young. I guess you could say that the fever set-in at a young age.
Tell us a bit about your background
At about the age of eighteen, I began drag racing full time. Shortly after that, I decided to take a try at owning my own repair shop. I was self-employed for several years, then I decided to try racing again for a bit. So I closed shop and went alcohol racing for about five years. After that, I went to work for a local motorcycle shop as a lead tech then service manager. I did that for many years and decided (at a point several years ago) that I would like to teach future motorcycle technicians so I went to work at the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute (MMI) in Phoenix, Arizona. At the time, there were no motorcycle tech schools in California, until WyoTech opened a campus in Fremont. I am doing what I love to do.
Why do you recommend WyoTech?
WyoTech has excellent values. They treat students and staff with the utmost of professionalism and respect. Our concerns are that we give the industry what they are seeking, a qualified entry-level technician. If a person is looking to begin a career as a motorcycle technician, I could think of no better way to start out than attending a WyoTech campus.
Anything else you want to share?
As a technical school instructor, I have a direct effect on a student's future as a technician. I am proud to say I help change lives! What better satisfaction could there be?
